Born on Long Island New York, Tom started playing guitar at the age of
10 after hearing Elvis, Buddy Holly and the Beatles and played in rock bands
throughout in teen years. After leaving high school, Tom discovered jazz and
moved to Tampa to attend the University of South Florida's jazz program under
Chuck Owen.
Upon graduation he became the guitarist and musical director for top jazz singer
Belinda Womack and was voted Tampa Bay's Best Jazz Band in 1994. While
with Belinda, Tom performed concerts with legendary cornetist Nat Adderly and
opened shows for numerous national acts including Branford Marsalis, The
Rippingtons, Spyro Gyra, Herbie Mann, Oleta Adams and many others. After
recording a CD in 1998, Tom joined R&B singer / national recording artist
Kasai and recorded his debut CD in 2000.
Currently, Tom leads his own Jazz / funk group - TOM JEMMOTT BAND and
performs with the high energy 12 piece dance band Southtown Fever . He is
also a member of the modern Jazz Trio - THICK AS THIEVES and continues a
busy performance schedule as a freelance jazz, classical and pop/rock guitarist
as well as teaching privately at Don Banks Music in South Tampa.
Also an avid composer Tom writes and records music for film and television,
producing spots for Disney and Microsoft. His latest film score for the holocaust
drama, Shalom, won at the Tampa Bay Jewish film festival in 2010.
Tom's musical inspiration comes from a variety of players and styles. From the
jazz sounds of Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall, Pat Metheny and John Scofield to the
rock sounds of Jimi Hendrix, Keith Urban and the Beatles, Tom approaches his
music with fire and passion.
